Our vision

Elevate climbing in central Pennsylvania and embody the spirit of adventure

Our values

Pursue adventure

We love to chase adventures of any kind. The journey, the challenges, and the triumphs are what motivate us, and sometimes the best adventures don’t end at the summit. We embrace the spirit of blazing our own trail, laugh when the going gets tough, and aren’t scared of saying YES to new things and the unknown.

Live with passion

We are driven by passion. No matter what it is, we are steadfast and determined to persevere through adversity. We are brave in the face of fear, relentlessly pursue our goals, and believe that resilience and hard work lead to success.

Choose what's right

We value integrity over comfort and strive to do what is right over what is easy, regardless of the situation. We pride ourselves on accountability and upholding our principles in both everyday tasks and larger than life challenges that ultimately build trust and respect with those around us.

Sustainability at Off Grid

Climbing is grounded in nature, and though we love pulling on our plastic walls we firmly believe in protecting the outdoors so that future generations can explore the wilderness as well.

That’s why Off Grid is dedicated to sustainable practices both in our business, and outside our business. We strive to buy sustainably sourced products, adopt procedures that limit our footprint on the earth, and support organizations that protect our environment.

Off Grid hosts local community & crag clean ups as well, so that the areas we enjoy stay enjoyable. If you’re interested in helping at one of these events, or you’d like to get involved in other sustainability efforts with us, please come talk to us!

Our team

The team at Off Grid is committed to helping elevate your climbing experience, and bring a little adventure to your every day life.

Hale

Founder

Hale

Hale was born and raised in Pennsylvania but spent his formative years living across the country and world.  He served in the US Army before a stint in Corporate America. Hale started climbing when he met his wife Kate, and now they enjoy adventuring across the world to explore new cultures & crags. He founded Off Grid in the hopes that they could help more people enjoy climbing, fitness, adventure, and the outdoors in Central Pennsylvania.

Ian

Head Routesetter

Ian

Originally from Florida, Ian has been climbing for over 15 years, and setting professionally for the past 6. He moved from Florida in 2024 to pursue his dream of climbing cool rocks, and setting cool rock climbs. He is excited to now live that dream at Off Grid. He enjoys the physical and mental challenges of climbing, and strives to bring both of those into every route he sets. When Ian isn't climbing you can find him exploring the outdoors, playing video games, and doing just about anything involving being in water. If you see Ian around the  gym come say "hi", and be sure to tell him what you think of the climbs!

Culture & Experience Director

Kate

Kate enjoys both the mental and physical challenges that climbing embodies, as well as the opportunity to introduce  and teach people about the sport. With 10+ years teaching experience she knows how to bring the energy and passion to support you doing hard things!  Often referred to as "crunchy" Kate also heads our sustainability efforts.

Storm & Skye

Founders Hale & Kate love adventures, but no adventure is truly complete without their dogs.  Their Weimaraner's are friendly crag dogs who love snuggles and snackies more than climbing.
